Accomplishments
The Swansea Tiger Band Program consists of approximately 350 students in grades 6-12.
It is a comprehensive band program that is devoted to teaching students the love of music.
Included in the program are several symphonic bands, color guard, jazz band, and a marching
band of 110 members.
The Marching Tigers of Swansea have been very successful the past couple of years.
For the most part, they have always finished in the top of their class in competitions, and
have proven to be very consistent. The following is a list of their latest accomplishments.
1998
- BK Classic: 2nd place in 2A, Best Drumline, Overall score of 82.5
- Capital City Classic: 1st place in 2A, Overall score of 89.85
- Hartsville Tournament of Bands: 1st place in 2A, Best Percussion, Best Auxilary,
Overall score of 86.2, Best Hornline, Top Bandfront
- Upper State Contest: Finished with an overall score of 86.8
1999
- BK Classic: Overall score of 89, 2nd place in 2A, Best Hornline, Top Bandfront, Best Drumline
- Capital City Classic: Overall score of 92.25, 1st place in 2A, Best hornline, Best percussion, Top bandfront, Best auxilary, Overall Grand Champion
- Walterboro Band Classic: Overall score of 94.9, 1st place in 2A, Best hornline, Best auxilary, Best Percussion, Top bandfront, 1A/2A Grand Champion
- Southern States Band Festival: Overall score of 94.2, 2nd in class 2A, Best hornline
- Carolina Low-Country Tournament of Bands: Overall score of 97.7 (Highest score ever), Best hornline, Best drumline, Best auxilary, Best drum major, Top bandfront, Wackiest director, 2A/3A Grand Champion
- Lower State Contest: Finished in 2nd place with an overall score of 91.2 (91.3 unofficially)
- 2A State Contest: 2A State Champions with an overall score of 93.8!!
- Orlando Festival of Music: Received the only superior rating which was also the highest score of any participant that weekend!
- OPA: Received the first OPA in Swansea history. This is the highest award given by the South Carolina Band Masters Association. The OPA is determined by the number of points a band receives. Points are earned through state marching contest, concert festival, all-state/region band, and solo/ensemble.
